Here is a detailed list of.... Our Work
The following activities are jobs our volunteers do. We have no paid workers.
Shelter Activities: Grooming, selection
of animals, transportation to vet, adoption
(showing animals, screening applicants, paperwork), telephone follow-up with new owners -
vetting, database maintenance.
Foster activities: Home shelter and care of animals, transporting to and from vet appointments, and to and from adoption events, new homes, etc.
Publicity and Fund Raising Activities: Parades, raffles, community pet walks/washes, staffing booths at civic events, coordination radio/TV publicity, food sales, web site and newsletter maintenance and content, grant-writing. Posting animals on pet search sites, community bulletin boards and local newspapers listings.
Investigations: Responding to calls requiring investigation of animal abuse, coordinating responses to telephone calls.
Administrative: Writing articles for the newsletter, newsletter publication and distribution, Humane Society database maintenance, adoption paperwork and follow-up contact.
Educational/civic: Promoting animal welfare awareness at local schools, nursing home visits (pet therapy), inform public of availability of low-cost spay/neuter clinic (available to all - all incomes, any county)
Adopt a Pet: Coordination, Set up, staffing of event, animal preparation and grooming for Adopt a Pet event, transporting of animals to event
Hotline - Checking and recording answering machine calls responding to or forwarding calls to appropriate people for action, dog adoptions, cat adoptions, cruelty investigations
Miscellaneous - Kennel cleanup, transporting and sorting donated pet food and supplies.
