HOW TO ADOPT FROM US
Animals at the Humane Society of Greater Cabarrus and Concord can be viewed during our adoption hours (see Locations and Hours page for details). Allow time to view the animal, hold and/or walk it and follow through with the adoption process. Appointments must be made for animals in foster care.
After making a selection on a cat or dog or
puppy or kitten to be taken into their family, the potential adopter fills out an adoption
application. This application asks questions about what kind of facilities you have
for your new family member and what kind of experience you have had with previous pets. We
want to make sure that the animal will have a good home and also make sure that the animal
is a good match for you and your needs. Note: we do not adopt out "outdoor" animals.
We require that dogs be indoors with the family at night and that cats be
indoors at all times. If we believe that the adoption will be a good
one, after a few more steps to the procedure, you can generally take your new family
member home with you right then.
You next will also sign a contract promising to take good care of the animal. All animals are spayed or neutered as part of the adoption. The adoption fee for dogs/puppies is $150 and $100 for cats/kittens. This covers a vet health check, treatment for fleas and worms, all necessary shots, spaying or neutering, and microchipping to identify the dog if it is ever lost. We will go over the animal's medical records with you so you understand what shots and treatments have already been given. You get a copy of this medical record to give to your vet so you don't need to pay to have the shots done again.
